My coworkers were absolutely amazing! The culture of the group was very collegiate and friendly.
What I wish was different
I had quite a bit of free and unstructured time. There was also a lot of disorganization/lack of clarity about timelines and expectations.
Advice
Take initiative and get involved! Get to know your coworkers and offer to help with things. It will help to cut down on your unstructured time and can lead to really rich relationships.

What I liked
I loved working at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC over the summer. The staff at the hospital are very friendly and like helping college students gain experience in the medical field. Working at CNMC allowed me to gain experience by writing a research paper, shadow doctors in the operating room and in a clinical setting, and communicating with patients. There was also a summer lecture series at the hospital which had 1 or 2 lectures a week from doctors in various fields.
What I wish was different
I spent a lot of time entering data and working on my research paper. I would have preferred to gain more clinical knowledge during my time at the hospital.
Advice
Working with residents at the hospital who were only 4 or 5 years ahead of me was a helpful experience. You gain a new network while working at a large hospital like CNMC which proves very useful when applying to jobs the next summer.
