Caption Agent

September 2014 • Meridian, ID

What I liked

I can study all I want during slow times, and even finish homework

What I wish was different

The job seems rewarding on paper, but after working there you suddenly realize how much you can't stand boomers.

Advice

Don't think, just caption. Nobody's conversations/life will ever be interesting and it's best to turn yourself into a glorified parrot that retains no information.

What I liked

The flexible hours and pay.

What I wish was different

Personally I didn’t feel comfortable standing or sitting in a chair for elongated periods of time, though there isn’t much I could change about that, I would want to be able to move around more.

Advice

To be patient with the job, it does take a little bit to get into the flow of captioning, but relatively easy.

Captioning agent

June - August 2019 • Meridian, ID

What I liked

The place was very considerate about the employees. Training was thorough and accommodating.

What I wish was different

Job was sometimes boring. Also, I wish the trainers had maybe some linguistic knowledge of how the captioning program worked (for example, why it would phonetically mistake some words for others). The ability to have more hours would have been nice as well.

Advice

Make sure to create opportunities for yourself to interact with other coworkers.
