Camp Yavneh

Unit Head

June - August 2023 • Northwood, NH

What I liked

I liked gaining experience managing and working with a team, learning to support children based on their psychological and emotional needs, and spending more time with campers I have worked with before.

What I wish was different

I wish my summer job paid more. I was paid a fixed salary for the summer, not an hourly rate, and it is a 24-hour position, meaning my compensation did not reflect the amount of work I completed, in my opinion. However, the job is very rewarding and provides valuable experience for my future career.

Advice

I encourage anyone interested in the education or social work field to pursue a summer job similar to mine, at a summer camp, because it will show you whether or not you are truly interested in those fields of work. Working at a summer camp for the past three years has affirmed my passion for helping children and working in the social work field.
