What I liked

I loved pretty much everything about this job! I was the Department Head of the boating department, so I gained valuable experience managing a staff of my peers, and grew as a leader in the bunk with my campers as well! Camp is such a supportive, encouraging environment that I was unafraid to take risks and ask for more responsibilities as the summer progressed, so I believe I had significant personal and professional growth.

What I wish was different

I would have liked a bit more feedback from my supervisors.

Advice

I would say that people should be willing to try new experiences and work at summer camps! Students at elite schools often do not consider being a camp counselor for their summer job, but I would advise them to think about the myriad of skills you gain at a literally 24/7 job.

As a counselor in the drama department, I got hands on experience in my field while also getting a fun summer camp experience and living unplugged in Maine!
