I wish there was a little more structure to the job. Being projects based kept me constantly on my toes and made my workload irregular.

What I liked

I also participated in the Startup Summer program from Colorado University, where we had to build a startup in 10 weeks. At the end, my team and I presented our business in the pitch competition and won 1st place! We were awarded $3,000 to develop it. I loved this whole process, and it helped me grow a lot as an individual.

What I wish was different

Shortly after returning to FIU, I started to keep a daily journal. I keep track of what I learn every day, and it’s wonderful. I have grown exponentially and developed principles that I use every day. I wish I had started before going to Colorado this Summer. I had a lot of experiences from which I could have learned more, and this, of course, would have had an exponential effect.

Advice

Being yourself is the right strategy: Understand who you are and only take actions that align with that identity. It is the only way for you to find the place where you belong. Prestige, ego, fear, and others will seduce you into deviating from this path. Don’t do it. Also, make sure you express your real self to the world; that way, you will attract the right people and opportunities.
