What I liked

In healthcare, and especially in private practices, you need to have an understanding of not only the direct care-delivery aspect but also the business-oriented aspects (such as insurance verification, appointment scheduling, conflict mediation, etc.). As a future healthcare worker, I loved the exposure to all aspects of working in a medical office that I received in this position. When I began my position almost two years ago, I was not confident in my ability to manage the daily patient flow. The Awaken Wellness team dedicated extensive time and care to fostering these skills and comprehensively training me to handle all the needs of this position. Additionally, you are always made to feel appreciated and taken care of! At Awaken Wellness, I have learned so much about health promotion and communication, the insurance process, practice management, and team collaboration. I highly recommend this position to anyone interested in the medical field and holistic healthcare!

Advice

One piece of advice I would share is the ability to lean into the discomfort of not knowing the answer to a question. Sometimes, patients can ask challenging questions -- if you don't know the answer, you can trust that you can always direct questions to people that would know (the insurance billing team, the practitioners, the owner) or follow up when you figure it out! While it can be tempting to try to people please, you'll go much farther if you are able to learn to say, "That's a great question! Let me follow up with you as soon as I find out!"
