I liked how Archer Western included me in the process of Concrete takeoffs and gave me specific assignments to do.
What I wish was different
I wish I had asked for more opportunities to explore different paths in the job.
Advice
I would encourage anyone to not be afraid to ask questions and find what you love to do.

Construction Project Management Intern
August - December 2020 • Atlanta, GA
What I liked
I really enjoy the people I work with, many of which I consider friends. I’ve also learned a lot about the construction industry and project management as a career path for myself. It has been a great experience. The work is always rewarding and I never find myself dreading going to work in the mornings. I also had the opportunity to see cool things and learn about how things are built (like tower cranes and concrete pours and large diameter piping systems - it is all very fascinating to me). It was also pleasing to know that even my smaller contributions to the project would benefit its overall success.
What I wish was different
There are times where my path forward seems unstructured (such that it almost seems as if they were making things up for me to complete rather than having a set educational plan for me to follow). I definitely think more structure to the program would help both AW and myself gain the most from the experience.
Advice
Go into things with an open mind and a willingness to learn and you’ll absolutely reap what you sow.

Project Engineer Co-Op
January - August 2019 • Phoenix, AZ
What I liked
I enjoyed being exposed to a completely new area of construction. The Phoenix office is primarily focused on water treatment plants which is more complex than commercial construction.
What I wish was different
The first few months of my Co-Op was very slow for work and got quite boring. There was not much opportunity for me to take on work.
Advice
Be open to anything. This experience was eye-opening for me with the challenges I faced and the way I overcame them.
