Special Events and Marketing Intern

February - June 2019 • Rochester, NY

What I liked

I loved getting to share my experience with having diabetes and expanding my network in that realm because it’s something that I wish to do later on in my career.

What I wish was different

More marketing experience. I was in on more of the special events side, but was hoping to do some social media aspect of it.

Advice

It makes a difference when you work with an organization to have some knowledge about the cause they are trying to spread awareness about. (I.e. type one diabetes, American diabetes association).

Camp Counselor

August 2018 • Hickory Hills, IL

What I liked

It was a fun experience working with the kids and while working there I had got to observe= how having type 1 diabetes affects their daily life.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to volunteer at one of their overnight camps with older kids, but scheduling worked out for me to work with the younger kids at day camp instead.

Advice

I highly recommend volunteering at diabetes camp! You get the benefit of summer fun while being a healthy role model and learning about diabetes.
