Software Development Engineering Intern

June - September 2022 • Bellevue, WA

What I liked

The onboarding process was great, and allowed me to ease into my role (seeing as this was my first internship). My manager was great, and my mentor and other teammates were very eager to help with different parts of my project.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunities to meet with my team in person, whether in the office or outside of work for team building.

Advice

Always try to solve a problem on your own first, but don't be afraid to reach out for help to unblock yourself—take advantage of the expertise of the rest of your team!

Warehouse Stocker

June - August 2022 • Dundalk, MD

What I liked

The flexibility of the schedules/shifts were very appealing. I also liked being able to choose to work independently or with other people. The benefits are also intriguing, where you receive a discount for the Amazon store.

What I wish was different

I wish that the shift always went until the ending time. The only downfall is that you only work as long as there’s work.

Advice

Always be on time and put in sick hours in advance. Once you become dependable, new roles with higher pay begin to open up, starting at $17 an hour.

Package Handler

February - June 2022 • Vacaville, CA

What I liked

They had extremely flexible hours and allowed me to take volunteer time off almost any day of my choosing. Additionally, they are very big on safety and ensures their employees don’t be put in any danger

What I wish was different

There’s many different roles and positions within the warehouse, so I do wish I got to pick which specific one I wanted rather than being assigned to one each day

Advice

Everything is explained clearly and if one of the positions is causing you pain or is too difficult, communicate with them and they will switch your role.

Management Intern

June - August 2022 • Amagasaki Shi, Hyōgo

What I liked

I liked diversity with people from various countries working there. Also, as a large company, each challenge was large-scale and I experienced firsthand the movement of a large amount of money.

What I wish was different

There was a problem with scheduling and sometimes I had no idea what to do, so I would like to see that improved.

Advice

It was a very meaningful internship in terms of actually working in the field. I was able to learn the manners of a working adult that I would learn after graduating from college, and I was able to experience what it is like to run a company, so I gained more than just knowledge of the company. I would highly recommend that you apply and experience not only Amazon but also other internship programs.

Area Manager Intern

June - August 2022 • Phoenix, AZ

What I liked

- Structure and set-up of the Internship Program. - Management and Senior Leadership at my site. - Mixture of learning life as a Warehouse Associate and learning how to be an Area Manager.

What I wish was different

Really the only issue I had with it was there seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between the Amazon Intern Team in Seattle and all of the FCs/General Managers of sites. Everyone was always a little confused and did not know exactly what would come next or how exactly a certain process was supposed to work because every site was different, and Senior Leadership doesn't have the time to contact Corporate. For this reason, the only issue was a miscommunication.

Advice

It's what you make it. If you feel like you aren't getting enough work and having enough of experience, speak up to Management. They appreciate feedback and really do emphasize the "open door" culture.

Human Resources Intern

May - July 2022 • Davenport, FL

What I liked

Amazon provides interns the opportunity to fully experience the responsibilities that come with the role. As part of the internship experience, Amazon has all interns work on a summer long project that impacts the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to meet other interns in person. We had a lot of online meetings to connect with other interns but having an in-person meeting with other interns could have helped interns feel connected.

Advice

Always try to find a solution yourself before asking your managers or teammates.

Operations Area Manager

June - August 2021 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

On-floor experience Great team Knowledge of Amazon Great exposure.

What I wish was different

I wish I could know about night shifts and more details about my team, Amazon’s expectations before joining the team. Working night shifts, but I am not allowed to do salary negotiation. No cohort, so I did not know what Amazon expected on me. Please remind Amazon to be more transparent about this!

Advice

In general, I am very thankful to Amazon for giving me the opportunity to grow, so I would recommend this job to anyone who has interest in Management, especially Operations Management. When you pass the interview, there will be relocation options. Please ask the recruitment team questions regarding your working hours and benefits. I understand that interns should not ask too much about salary and benefits, but if possible, consider them carefully. If you find it is not worth your health, consider it again. I appreciated the experience as well as the opportunity, so I took it. This opportunity is very great for people who want knowledge and learning. But if your health does not allowed you to work nights, you shouldn’t take it. Also, this role is for self-motivated people. No one will help you with your tasks, because everyday is super busy. Please be prepared, and be open-minded to ask for support. If something is out of control, it’s normal at Amazon. The leadership team experiences the same thing as you do.
