Allendale Association

About Allendale Association

In 1897, Allendale opened its doors to youth who suffered from home and family situations ill-equipped to meet their childhood needs, often including abandonment, neglect and abuse. Those children, like the youth we serve today, needed a place to learn, grow and heal. Today, the Allendale Association annually serves over 800 children and their families – with specialized focus on youth who have suffered severe relational trauma, often including physical and sexual abuse. We operate residential treatment facilities in Lake Villa and North Chicago,IL for up to 150 children and youth. These services are complimented by school programs designed for special education students ages 7-21, including programs for day-students from local communities. Our clinical program provides training and supervision on our treatment model implementation (REStArT℠) as well as oversite of treatment team and family clinical consultation, individualized/family therapy and treatment/discharge planning for each youth in our care. We serve the states of Illinois and Wisconsin, with most of our youth originating from Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties in IL and southeastern WI. Allendale operates a group home in the Waukegan community and provides specialized, regular and home-of-relative foster care in Lake, Cook, and McHenry Counties.

“My experience at Allendale allowed me to interact with various populations of children who have experienced unimaginable traumatic experiences from birth and many still experience the trauma today. Even though I was only there for a little while, I truly felt I was making a tiny difference in their lives by showing care, support, nurturing, and being an advocate. Most days were extremely hard but there were numerous times the kid's personalities shown through their darkness and I had the chance to see them simply be a kid. ”
