Because the Columbia City Ballet is such a small organization, the interns get a lot of hands-on experience. There's a lot of work to be done and you learn a lot because of it. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for their first internship.
What I wish was different
Work was a little slow in the summer since we were mostly planning ahead for the start of the season. Interns for fall and spring semesters will definitely be a bit busier in terms of helping out with performances and other events.
Advice
Be willing to step outside your comfort zone. I knew next to nothing about ballet when I applied, but I still had a very worthwhile experience. If you think the opportunity sounds interesting, apply!

What I liked
I loved learning the media relations side of PR. I hadn't had any experience beforehand and it was great learning how to coordinate with the media. I also enjoyed writing press releases and distributing them to the proper publications.
What I wish was different
Nothing, I feel like I learned a lot and will take these skills with me.
Advice
Don't hesitate to jump in. I was nervous at first reaching out to media, but now have become much more confident. Offer your help, too.
