Working Sunday’s is tough, I’d love to change that.

Push through July, July gets tough. But remember all the good experiences.

What I liked

I loved meeting so many new people every day. Each day was unique and provided new challenges so it kept me on my toes and engaged.

What I wish was different

I wish I had had more opportunities to explore the area I was in but I worked a lot and often didn't have the engery or free time to do so.

Advice

Don't be scared to take an opportunity just because you don't know anyone.

What I liked

Living in Alaska was amazing, I had so much fun with all the people I worked with too. It was an amazing experience. I was paid very well too and was able to save a ton of money.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have saved more money and not spent as much. I also wish it would have been easier to get time off and go somewhere else for a weekend or something but that's just the nature of the cost of leaving Alaska to go anywhere, it's very expensive.

Advice

Take the opportunities given you to live in an exotic place! You wont get experiences like these very often, so take them!

Got to meet lots of people. Enjoyed the outdoors, traveled to different parts of Alaska, the great team I worked with

I wish I had traveled a bit more and that i should have gone on some of the excursions offered by the company.

Advice

be prepared for boring days and fun days and lots of rain. there will also be long workdays but there are a lot of fun people you work with on the island.

Don't pack too much, be prepared to pay for your own groceries, you'll work almost every day and have a day off for on average about every six days.

What I liked

It was really cool to experience something I had never done before in a new place. I had to help out all the bus drivers quite a bit and had a lot of responsibilities to take care of. I had amazing co-workers and learned so much from this experience.

What I wish was different

Sometimes the job was hard and there were pretty long days. Sometimes you have to deal with people who are impatient or not very nice but you just have to learn how to deal with that. It had it's moments where it was stressful and tiring but overall it was a good experience.

Advice

I think the main thing is just to understand that it can be a lot and it can be hectic. Sometimes it's difficult to be a dock rep instead of an actual driver, but you learn and grow a lot from this job.

What I liked

I enjoyed the fun atmosphere you experience when working in tourism. The customers you interact with are typically very happy to be there. Visiting Alaska is usually a large item off the bucket list and seen as a once in a lifetime vacation. Besides the fun atmosphere working with the customers, you quickly grow attached to your co-workers and they become your second family.

What I wish was different

The mornings are early as you have to arrive before the cruise ships pull into port. Typical call time was 7:00 am. Earliest call time I had was 6:30 am.

Advice

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to Alaska and actually experience what it is like to live there. This company offers comfortable housing for all employees and they are mostly college students as well. Area managers typically put on fun activities for everyone during off time, such as hiking, whale watching, salmon hatchery visits, and camping just to name a few.

What I liked

It was a blast driving buses, giving tours, and meeting new people. The company helped me get everything I needed to be qualified for the job. Every day was different and didn't really feel like work.

What I wish was different

If I could have stayed longer!

Advice

If you want to go to Alaska, you should drive there. The road trip through Canada is incredible. Also, it opens up so many opportunities to have a personal vehicle up there.
