I liked the atmosphere and the projects. They have you work on real projects and problems with other engineers. As an intern, you get a lot of exposure to other roles in the company, and get to take a lot of tours. Really cool meaningful work, and a lot of really helpful employees.
What I wish was different
I do wish that the temporary housing situation in the area was better, and the Canoga park location can get really hot in the summer.
Advice
Ask questions! Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know something, but after that do your best to learn it! Meet other people you interact with in person and ask for advice.

Structural Analysis Intern
June - August 2019 • Canoga Park, CA
What I liked
Felt very valued as an intern, got to experience tours of the facility's manufacturing shops and testing labs. Also had opportunities to network with other interns on site. Flown out to Huntsville location with all other interns for big Intern Day event all expenses paid.
Mentor/colleagues were very supportive and open to answering my questions as they came up. Always felt I was given technically challenging work and not just given meaningless busy work.
I also enjoyed working in a room with other interns instead of my own cubicle as it allowed me to ask questions that I didn't fully feel comfortable asking full-timers and build that network day to day.
What I wish was different
I would have appreciated more clarification on the expectations the company had on me from the beginning so I didn't put unnecessary pressure on myself to achieve goals that were not expected of me.
Advice
Don't be afraid to ask questions! You'll hear it a lot while there but even if it's non-technical, a good amount of the workers there enjoy talking to interns about their experiences in the company and giving you a lot of insight.

Wonderful work place that clearly cares about their employees and interns. They even did an intern day where Eileen Drake, CEO of Aerojet Rocketdyne, and several senior leaders took the time to meet with us.
What I wish was different
Nothing

Mechanical Design Intern
May - August 2019 • Canoga Park, CA
What I liked
The work was awesome. Great company environment. Everyone had a great attitude, loved their jobs, and wanted to help me grow and learn as an engineer. I was given meaningful work and able to learn more about the company's products on the site and more about the company as a whole. Overall, great experience with tremendous learning opportunity.
What I wish was different
Wish that the company had been more helpful with providing resources to find housing.
Advice
Have a positive attitude and try to learn as much as you can. The weeks fly by, so don't be afraid to also explore the surrounding area of whatever site you end up at.

Business Intern
June - September 2018 • Sacramento, CA
What I liked
The environment was very structured, there was an all-expense paid trip to their LA facility to participate in the "Aerospace games" along with the interns at SpaceX, Northrop, Boeing, Orbital ATK, etc. Management was very helpful and responsive. The inter-company communication was prompt and I enjoyed working with the other interns. My coworkers frequently took me out to eat and there were frequent small conference room meetings where we had catered treats or meals. I also got to present to the CFO and to ask him questions, a very rare and helpful opportunity.
What I wish was different
The slow adoption of technology made everything seem a bit antiquated. I wish that there had been a newer version of Oracle Business Systems that had integrated more into my position so that it would be applicable elsewhere, although I hear an upgrade is pending.
Advice
Know your resume. The phone group interviews consist of a mix of your potential future coworkers both within and outside of your department, so the questions come at all angles. Knowing your resume and preparing for the opportunity to expand and draw connections between the job and your skills listed will prove useful.

Electronics Design Intern
June - August 2018 • Canoga Park, CA
What I liked
The ability to apply what I learned in school to the real world.
What I wish was different
I wish the mentor I was assigned for the job was able to be more present. The experience could have been taken to another level had he been around more.
Advice
It is important to pay attention to the job titles and the company you are at if you straddle the fence between hardware and software (rather this is hardware/software track of EE or computer engineering track of CS). One thing I wish I had better recognized was that being a software engineer at Aerojet is quite different from being a software engineer at Google. So watch closely for what those roles entail to really make sure you get the intern experience that is right for you.

Manufacturing Engineering Intern
June - September 2017 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
They gave me opportunity to work on a lot of different projects which allowed me to learn a lot about the company and how the "real world" works.
What I wish was different
There was lots of bureaucracy within the company. You often had to wait a long time to get something simple done because it had to go through a chain of command.
Advice
A good work ethic isn't about getting everything right all the time, it's about trying hard all the time.
