I enjoyed learning from professional meteorologists in an operational forecast setting. I learned a lot about forecasting techniques and what a private sector meteorologist position looks like. The people there were always willing to help me learn more and teach me. I also enjoyed being able to warn clients for wind, lightning, and flooding threats.
What I wish was different
I wish that I would have been able to maintain my level of involvement in the forecasting process throughout the summer. When the other intern and I switched shift times half-way through the summer, the evening shift that I went to had less of that process.
Advice
Be comfortable owning your own apartment for the summer and living on your own and budgeting for that. This internship was paid, but I also had to lease my own apartment and buy my own groceries, etc.
