Family Service Coordinator

What I liked

I work with formerly homeless children and families in an affordable housing apartment. I lead biweekly homework club with tutors. After the kids are done with their homework we do art projects. I do event planning for monthly birthday celebrations, STEM classes, and field trips. This Wednesday I am taking the children on a field trip to watch the Warriors game, thanks to the Klay Thompson Foundation. I write case notes and do home visits.

What I wish was different

Because we are a non-profit, there is limited funding. I have to reach out to local stores, restaurants, and businesses for funding and donations.

Advice

This job may not make the most money, but it is truly rewarding. There are perks to choosing social service occupation, because you have a purpose other than yourself. You are changing lives for the better.
