Sales Associate

What I liked

It was a great experience to practice communicating with customers and to hone my problem solving skills. It was a relatively friendly work environment, and the store was a very fun environment. Also another big perk was that I got a discount at the store.

What I wish was different

Because it was retail, there were aspects of the job that were pretty exhausting. It was long hours on my feet, having to deal with certain customers that were not always cooperative, inconistent hours, not working on a regular basis, and a manager that was super nonconfrentational. Looking back at my summer , I probably wouldn't have worked there again, just because I worked very hard, but still made very little by the end of the summer. I wish I had done some kind of internship or at least picked up another job if a field that I was more interested in so I could have taken advantage of my summer and learned something.

Advice

It is important to take advantage of your summer and use the time to benifit yourself. Making money is definitely a selling point, but make sure whatever you do, make sure you are doing something that genuinely interests you. If it is a job that you aren't sure about, and you think you may not enjoy it or learn from it, you shouldn't take the job just for the money.
