About Unified Fire Authority

UFA is Utah's largest fire agency with 680 employees serving over 400,000 residents in nine cities and five townships in Salt Lake County and Utah County along with all the unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County. The UFA staffs 17 engine companies (11 four handed and 6 three handed), seven ladder companies (all four handed), 10 ambulance crews, three Battalion Chiefs, and one District Chief every day from 23 fire stations. The UFA also operates facilities for Salt Lake County Emergency Management, Fire Investigations, Bomb Squad, Wildland, Urban Search & Rescue, Logistics, Medical & Fire Training, and Administration.

UFA responds to over 30,000 calls per year responding from 25 fire stations throughout the valley as well as four other facilities including the Salt Lake County Emergency Operations Center. UFA is also a co-sponsor of Utah Task Force 1, one of 28 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Teams. Other services provided include a Bomb Squad, a Wildland Fire Division, Water Rescue, Heavy Rescue and Hazardous Materials response. All of these services are accomplished with over 600 dedicated professionals with a variety of skills and experience.

Of the 680 staff; 420 are full time firefighters, 52 are full time civilian, and 230 are part-time or seasonal staff. The UFA provides advanced life support care and transport, heavy rescue, and hazardous materials response with front line staffed units. In addition, the UFA provides emergency management services for Salt Lake County, Fire Management services for Camp Williams, and is the sponsoring agency for Utah Task Force 1, a federal Urban Search and Rescue Team.
