The office in San Francisco is very small with a close-knit team. I liked the opportunity to develop close relationships with everyone on the team. I worked directly under the CEO, who was a very inspiring woman with a lot of experience and knowledge about maternal and infant health.
What I wish was different
I would have hoped for a more challenging project. Development is very repetitive and mostly involves cold calling to get donations. I also would have liked more structure to the intern program. I often ran out of things to do and was tasked with busy work.
Advice
This position is a very good window to the non-profit world. If you want to get exposure to what running a non-profit requires, this is a good position. However, be prepared for repetitive tasks, cold-calling, and administrative tasks.
