I adored the people! My supervisors, Representative Sims, and all of the folks I got to work for on a daily basis made this experience nothing short of amazing. I learned something new every day from people so wildly different from myself; it was humbling to serve so many people in the city I love.
What I wish was different
I wish that this experience was paid. I loved this job and wanted to spend more time doing it, but the lack of financial compensation made that impossible to justify.
Advice
Be brave and be honest! There's a lot of learning to be done in a position like this, and the first step to success is being open with those you're working with. Try to remember that you're there to learn, not to come in already knowing everything. It can be scary to admit ignorance to things that seem second nature to your superiors, but it helps to keep in mind that they likely started out in a similar position to you. Try to be confident, ask a million questions, and try your best - the rest will come naturally.
