It was an opportunity to be a police officer for a short period of time to see what the job is like. I gained more experience in the criminal justice field in one summer with the OCPD than I did in my three years of college to this point. There were many helpful mentors and it was a great chance to serve the community.

Public Safety Aide
May 2018 • Ocean City, MD
What I liked
I love the experience of doing policework. It was more than internship, as I was actually paid to go on patrol with a car and work with police officers, going to see crime and emergency services first hand. From everything to learning how to do the paperwork to learning how to work a bad accident and go on traffic stops was a great learning experience.
What I wish was different
Nothing, I love doing my job.
Advice
You have to be vigilant at all times, both for your safety and for integrity purposes; after all, you're in a marked patrol car. Your conduct is expected to be held off-duty as well.
