Marathon Petroleum Company LP

Technical Services Co-op

August 2017 • Catlettsburg, KY

What I liked

Marathon truly treats their co-ops as if they were full time employees. You are assigned to true engineering projects and you are pushed past your academic comfort zone, which allows you to grow as an engineer. It is a really challenging and rewarding experience.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had taken a few more chemical engineering courses before working this co-op (separations, fluids, etc.) so that I could appreciate and apply skills that I learned in class to industry.

Advice

Communication and initiative are key with any co-op or internship. Practicing these skills will set you up for success in any industry.

Global Procurement Intern

January - August 2017 • Findlay, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed how I was given real work and felt like the team I was working with really did need me

What I wish was different

I wish the location process was different, we are not told where we are staying until 45 days prior

Advice

Definitely come in with an open mind and ready to work, the tasks may seem difficult at first but you realize how much you've grown at the end of the internship

Business Operations Intern

June - August 2018 • Wilkesboro, NC

What I liked

The real-world experience, team projects, spending time with the other interns from all over the US

What I wish was different

I was promised that I would spend time with recruiting and that didn't happen; I also spent more time working in the store than was agreed upon- during the second half of my internship my DM wasn't very communicable and did not spend enough time with me- she just used me to fill in for her staffing issues

Advice

Do your own research going into an internship, be aware that some companies over glorify themselves, so don't be afraid to ask hard-hitting questions in order to make sure that you personally are a good fit
