I learned so much during my internship even though it was cut short due to COVID-19. I had very little software development experience coming into the internship, but left after eight weeks with plenty of full-stack and development pipeline knowledge. In addition, everybody I met at FactSet was genuinely friendly and willing to help out!
What I wish was different
I wish there had been more opportunities to interact with other interns and engineers, though I understand that was difficult to do in a virtual format.
Advice
The projects that the software engineer interns work on are very independent, so definitely try to manage your time well. Find a good balance between learning new technologies and actually implementing the project.

What I liked
Excellent training program, exposure to entire financial industry from both the buy side to sell side, amazing coworkers and fellow interns who are always willing to answer any questions or assist on projects. In addition, FactSet offered a speaker series where we got to hear from leaders of the company including the CEO Phil Snow.
What I wish was different
Although I had the opportunity to go on a client visit, I would have enjoyed being able to visit a few more clients during the program.
Advice
Network with as many people as you can. FactSet has an incredible culture and everyone, even upper management, is interested in getting to know you.

What I liked
Loved how versatile the job was. There was no day where you were doing the same thing. Also the office was very young, and we had a great time. Everyone was super welcoming and helpful whenever there was something we did not know how to do as interns. Also, the rotations they did were perfect ensuring you were never stuck. Lastly, the mentor program was great because you always had a resource when needed.
What I wish was different
The only thing I would change is the amount of time we spent on the support desk. This was the best way to learn and would have been great to do from the beginning of the summer.
Advice
To make sure that you meet as many people as possible, but also learn as much as you can. Factset is an awesome tool so by using it as much as you can because the knowledge at your fingertips is just as good as the experience you gain.

What I liked
I was able to learn a lot about web programming in industry using TypeScript, Vue.js, and Node.js. Additionally, I learned about a new way of designing mobile web applications using Progressive Web Applications. There were a lot of fun intern events and I had a lot of chances to hang out with the other interns. Also, there's free lunch and snacks!
What I wish was different
I wish it had been easier to choose the project that you're going to be working on over the summer. The project selection phase felt rushed even though it was a really important decision.
Advice
Although FactSet isn't one of the big name tech companies like Google, Amazon, or FaceBook, it's still a very good educational experience and offers a lot of benefits to its interns and employees. One piece of advice I've learned from this is to value what small or mid-sized companies can offer you, even though they may not be as well known.

The team was super encouraging and friendly, got lunch paid for, snacks available, project was fun.
What I wish was different
FactSet doesn't really care about interns that aren't engineers or marketing interns so I was incredibly neglected throughout the summer by HR. My pay was significantly less than theirs and they didn't assist with relocation at all.
Advice
Internships are what you make of them, the more you demonstrate your ability the more your team will appreciate you
