Advice

Be ready to learn. Take initiative and dive deep into topics but don’t forget the big picture.

Account Executive Intern (Internet and Software)

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Importance of company in the sector as AWS is the market leader in cloud with a $65 billion+ run rate. Great exposure to tenured leaders who have decades of experience in the industry. Top of industry pay and full-time offer is competitive with investment banker market.

What I wish was different

More time on client calls and shadowing reps to learn talk tracks,

Advice

Be willing to dive deep and ask lots of questions, cloud computing is a complicated industry, and it's important to learn as much as possible especially when in front of people who know the landscape so well.

Software Development Engineering Intern

May - August 2021 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

Culture is great. Everyone I met wanted me to succeed and have a good work/life balance. I got to work on a meaningful project that the team really needed for their product

What I wish was different

I wish I had chosen the hybrid option rather than the virtual option for the internship. Going to the office regularly would have been much better than staying in my room.

Advice

Deliver, deliver, deliver. Just keep moving onto the next task. The more you're willing to learn and take on, the better you'll be able to contribute and get a return offer.

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2021 • Herndon, VA

What I liked

Very smart colleagues, very flexible to the remote work environment necessitated by Covid. Very demanding, though reasonable expectations for an intern project. Extremely helpful when I needed help. Very understanding management when I needed to have a surgery during the internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to go into the office more, though unfortunately covid made that very challenging.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for help! Your mentors and your colleagues love to get to talk to interns and would love to help you!

Software Development Engineering Intern

June - September 2021 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I loved the mentorship and team environment. My manager and mentor allowed me to learn a lot on my own and offered me amazing help whenever I needed it. The team was very welcoming as well and I had a lot of fun working on my intern project.

What I wish was different

Advice

After the internship, I noticed a huge change in my mindset. I had my doubts going in because I felt like I didn't know enough to contribute much to the team and that I would not be useful at all. After joining, I realized that everyone knows that I am an intern and that I am mainly there to learn. Knowing this took a lot of weight off my shoulders and I was able to learn a lot! In short, don't be nervous, you got the job and no one expects much from an intern, just use the opportunity to learn as much as you can.

SDE Intern

June - August 2021 • East Palo Alto, CA

What I liked

I liked that I got my own project, and really felt responsible for my own progress and in control. It also never felt like what I was doing was useless or not going to be used, since it made sense in the context of what the team was doing. I also had a lot of exposure to very relevant technologies for industry, which was super helpful for interviews.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more of an in person component. Despite technically being hybrid and having the opportunity to go into the office, none of my team actually went into the office so i never met them in person, which made me feel pretty disconnected to both the team and the company as a whole.

Cloud Support Associate Intern

May - August 2021 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I absolutely loved this internship experience! From the structure of the learning process to the leaders who made it possible, everything was so much more than I expected. It was both fun and challenging!

What I wish was different

I was a member of the 1st cohort group ever at AWS, so there were some kinks that needed to be ironed out, however, my cohort contributed our input and opinions about the internship and helped pave the way for a smoother road for future interns. I honestly wouldn't change a thing.

Advice

Prepare to be challenged! The material is very in-depth and quickly served, so make sure you are focused and willing to learn things at a fast pace. Engage yourself in the learning process as much as possible, be interactive, and don't be afraid to ask questions!
